Nanami Haruka kiskorától kezdve a nagyanyjánál élt vidékén, ahol nem volt sok ember, így elszokott a tömegtől. Egy nap, mikor bement a városba, majdnem elájult a sok ember miatt, és csak egy énekes hangja volt képes megmenteni. Ezután eldönti, hogy a neves zeneművészeti iskolába, a Saotome Akadémiára fog járni, hogy dalszövegíróvá válhasson, és egy nap dalt írhasson a bálványának, Hayato-samának. Azonban már a felvételi napján problémákba ütközik, ugyanis elkésik, és nem akarják beengedni. Két fiú siet a segítségére, Ittoki Otoya és Ren Jinguuji. Miután nagy nehezen sikerül bejutnia a felvételire, fel is veszik és Nanami hivatalosan a Saotome Akadémia tanulója lesz. Az akadémián találkozik további négy fiúval, Hijirikawa Masatoval, Kurusu Shou-val, Shinomiya Natsukival és Ichinose Tokiyavál (aki Hayato-sama fiatalabbik ikertestvére). Továbbá egy barátnőt is talál, akivel a felvételi napján ismerkedett meg, és aki a szobatársa is lesz, Shiboya Tomochikát. Nanaminak még sok problémával kell szembenéznie az akadémián, ugyanis van néhány alapvető hiányossága a zene terén… Azt hiszem, nem árulok el sokat azzal, hogy lesz gondja bőven egy ilyen akadémián, ahol gyakorlatilag bármi megtörténhet.
